Ethiopia’s national independent legal support service strategy has been put into operation The Ministry of Justice announced that Ethiopia’s “National Independent Legal Support Service Strategy” has been approved and put into operation. State Minister of Justice Alemante Agdewe said that the strategy will help citizens who do not have the financial means to get legal aid to have the right to trial. He pointed out that the service has been working in an unorganized manner in federal and state judicial institutions as well as private lawyers and law schools under various universities. Therefore, according to Ministry of Justice Decree No. 1263/2014 and Article 6(a) of Decree No. 943/2008, it has been decided to put the service into operation from October 13, 2016. The information of the Ministry of Justice indicated that the National Independent Legal Aid Service has called on the relevant stakeholders to work together to implement the strategy.
