He explained that five billion 726 liters of milk, 328.2 thousand tons of meat, 96.7 thousand tons of honey and more than three billion eggs were produced in five months of the fiscal year.
The consultant said that efforts are being made to increase the production and productivity of chicken meat and eggs. In five months of the fiscal year, 88.8 thousand tons of chicken meat and 10.6 million tons of skins and hides were produced.
According to Dr. Yohannes, the main purpose of Lemat’s legacy is to ensure food security at the family and national level by increasing livestock production and productivity in the country and improving nutrition.
Lemat’s legacy, apart from ensuring food security, has a significant contribution to increase the income of export trade, replace imported products in the country and create job opportunities to grow the country’s economy, he said.
In addition, EPD reported that Lemat’s legacy is significant in preventing child stunting and making the country’s food system healthy.
Dr. Yohannes said that in order to increase the production of honey, the distribution of modern beehives has been done. They stated that 315 thousand modern beehives have been distributed to consumers in five months.
In addition, improvement of the dairy cow breed is one of the special focus activities of the Lemat Legacy Program; He said that the work of providing improved animal species has been done.
Lemat’s legacy is a bridge that connects farmers, ranchers and consumers; They indicated that it has achieved encouraging results in all parts of the country.
